Dr. Zana Alnaqib and our Smiles by Design team understand how annoying, inconvenient, and bothersome bad breath can be, which is why we are here to help you if you tend to suffer from bad breath.

Oftentimes, it’s best to identify the cause of the bad breath so you can find the correct solution. Some common causes of bad breath in Scottsdale, Arizona, include:

-Oral bacteria
-Dry mouth
-Gum disease
-The food you eat
-Tobacco use
-Medical conditions, like gastric reflux, diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease, or sinus problems

Now that you’ve found the cause of your bad breath, your dentist recommends that you eliminate it by using one or more of the following solutions:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Brush your teeth twice a day, floss your smile once a day, rinse your mouth daily with antibacterial mouthwash, and clean your tongue regularly.

-Clean your dentures: If you have dentures, it’s best to clean them at least once a day. If you don’t, bacteria and food particles will stick to the appliance and cause extreme bad breath.

-Produce saliva: Because dry mouth is a major cause of bad breath, it’s best to try and produce as much saliva as possible. You can do so by eating healthy foods that require a lot of chewing or by chewing sugar-free gum on a regular basis.

-Quit smoking: If you quit smoking, your breath will improve and your body will become much healthier.

-Visit your dentist: Visiting your dentist is a great way to fix or avoid bad breath, especially bad breath that results from gum disease. So, please remember to attend your dental checkup every six months.
